Why A Prayer Breakfast?

The Ottawa Civic Prayer Breakfast is one of 50 or more city prayer breakfasts held annually across the country. At the breakfast, we honour and pray for our Mayor, City Councillors and First Responders.

People of faith in Christ are exhorted and encouraged to pray for all in authority, that we may lead quiet and peaceable lives in all godliness. (1 Tim. 2:1,2) God has promised to bless our City if we, His people, will pray and seek His face. (2 Chron. 7:14) The Lord encourages citizens to pray for the well-being and love the City in which they live.  Prayer contributes to the peace and safety and security of the city and all of its residents.

We celebrate under the banner “Who is my neighbour?” because the Scriptures suggest that we love our neighbour as ourselves. (Mark 12:31) We honour and pray for our Mayor and Councillors because God has allowed them to serve the needs of our constituents and to ensure the prosperity of all who call Ottawa home. Our first responders are indispensable to our daily lives as they serve faithfully and courageously as our fellow citizens who benefit from our prayers to a loving and caring God.

The Ottawa Civic Prayer Breakfast is a celebration of unity and a rich opportunity to declare that Christians are alive and well and responsive to the leading of the Spirit of God.

All are welcome to join with neighbours, friends and colleagues to celebrate, to pray and to enjoy a great breakfast together.
